What is Literary Fiction?
Literary fiction treats character consciousness as the story’s engine. Events matter because they rearrange a life — a family, a friendship, a self-image — not because they decode a conspiracy. The prose can be clear and warm (Patchett, Towles) or tightly observed (Ng); it is not required to be difficult, but it is required to be morally specific.
This is not literary psychological thriller. A thriller still owes a hidden truth and a reveal architecture. Literary fiction owes an honest ending about who someone became.
How Bespoke Books implements it
In The Composer, Literary fiction is a top-level Genre card and a Writing Style on the Story tab. Selecting it loads the literary_fiction voice package (voice_id: literary_fiction) — character-moral interiority, an earned-moral-change reader contract, and implied rather than graphic content bounds.
